WHY BOTHER PROTECTING NEW CARS?
New cars are perfect, they are all the same and the paint will last a long time, right? Many people think Paint Protection is just a dealer upsell, and as discussed in our last blog “The truth about Dealer Paint protection” in many cases it is…but it’s done correctly it most certainly adds value and protects your new asset over the longer term.
New cars go through quite a few sets of hands prior to you taking delivery.
After the build process is completed and quality inspected many brands Eith sprays a transport wax over the car or even in many cases a protective film is applied to either the whole car or just high traffic places. As cars are no longer built in Australia, in all cases cars are sent to a transport yard in the country of origin and are held mostly outside awaiting their transport to the destination country. The vehicle is the driven onto a very tightly packed ship which is exposed to the elements of the ocean until it arrives. Upon arrival in Australia the vehicle is driven from the ship to yet another holding area, loaded onto a truck and transported to yet another holding yard in a particular state that the vehicle is allocated to.
The vehicle is then I’m a holding pattern until a dealer needs stock or it is presold and loaded onto yet another truck and sent to as dealer who requires it. So, what happens next? Well, this is where some issues can arise. If the vehicle was no damaged in Trasport (a blog for another time) it is then sent to the dealer detailer. There are good and bad detailers in the industry but i feel for the dealer employed ones as they have time a cost pressures placed upon them more than any other. The transport wax or film is removed however this isn’t a simple process and if not removed correctly can cause a multitude of issues depending on methods used.
If you have a lighter colored car, they are often not mechanically polished and rather chemically removed which in the scheme of things is a good thing. If you have a darker color or reds and blues in most cases the car is polished.
The detailer may do many cars in a day using the same pads and products and unfortunately using fillers to hide the minor scratch and swirl marks caused by rushing and cheaper products. The car will still look decent, and you the consumer will most likely be contented but after just a few washes it will have lost a large amount of luster. The cars that we protect often get noticed fir their retained shine and luster. Paint protection adds a very thin film that physically protects the paint under it while adding depth of shine. As a professional Paint Protection applicator, I can often tell just by walking past cars which has been protected or costed and which hasn’t. It’s more than just protecting from bird and bat droppings it’s also acid rain and bugs and tar etc. All these things build up over time and with paint protection will be much easier to remove and keeps your car looking new.
So next time you buy a car especially a new one considers how much it has been through prior to you taking the keys. It deserves the best and at Infinity Auto Protection it will receive the best. At Infinity Auto Protection we didn’t invent Paint protection, but we did perfect it.
